You are my Happy

This is another wonderful stamp from the Buzz & Bumble Workshop on the Go.  I'm working on building up my generic stash of birthday cards, so this one should fit the bill.  I've used this week's sketch from The Paper Players, and the colours from The Play Date Cafe:

Patterned papers are The Sweetest Thing, My Mind's Eye; Cardstock is Slate & White Daisy, CTMH; Stamp set is Buzz & Bumble, CTMH; Ink is Sorbet, CTMH; Spellbinder's die; Twine is American Crafts; Button & papers are Key Ingredients kit, Taylored Expressions.

Deconstructed Sketch #90

I've been waiting to find the perfect sketch to use with this stamp set!  This week's Deconstructed Sketch worked perfectly.  I know, you're all thinking "uhh, Karen... that doesn't make sense?"  The sentiment, that is.  Well, note my last name.  In the twentyish or so years that I've been with my husband, whenever someone says "What a gorgeous day!" he'll simply say, "thank you".  People look at you funny, and then smile when they get it :o)  Now both of my kids do it, too.  Sigh.  So I think this will be his anniversary card :o)
Patterned papers, stamp set, wooden bee & sparkles are all Buzz & Bumble Workshop on the Go; Ink is Cocoa; Cardstock is Champagne, Cocoa & Sunset.  All Close To My Heart.  Copic marker.

Dynamic Duos #41

It's time for another Dynamic Duos challenge, and we're creating with Island Indigo & Pool Party this week.  I was pretty sure I would do a masculine type of card (something I'm needing!) with these colours, and knew that I had these great papers from the now-retired "Cruisin'" paper pack.  I also pulled out a stamp set from a few years back that works well for guy cards - "Retro Tech".
And on the inside:
You can't really tell in the photo, but I overstamped the phone image with Versamark ink, and then embossed it with clear embossing powder, so the phone is quite "slick".  We would love to have you join us at Dynamic Duos this week, details are over on the DD blog.  You'll see some fun inspiration by the design team either on the blog, or their links are listed on my sidebar.  If you don't have the exact colours, just use something similar.  Neutrals are welcome, but otherwise you must use just our two colours!

Patterned papers are Cruisin'; Cardstock is Black, Twilight & White Daisy; Stamp sets are Retro Tech, Simple Stitches & Just a Number; Ink is Black; Clear buttons & twilight accents - all Close To My Heart.

Inspired By & Deconstructed Sketch #89

This was NOT where I was going with this week's Inspired By photo... I have several knitting stamps, so I was going to pull those out and get started.  Then I saw someone using these October Afternoon papers on Pinterest, and knew they'd be perfect, so I changed gears entirely.  I've used this week's Deconstructed Sketch - I loved how Jen used the die cut at the bottom of the sketch, so I did my own interpretation:
Here was our Inspiration:
And the sketch:
Patterned papers are Farmhouse, October Afternoon; Cardstock is Slate, CTMH; Stamp set is Card Word Puzzle, CTMH; Black ink, clear buttons & hemp all CTMH.

Dynamic Duos #40

It's Black Tie week at Dynamic Duos!  We are featuring Tempting Turquiose & Basic Black, with a dessert option of clouds....  I bought several sweet Sugar Kissed Cottage images from L'il Inker Designs back in November, and knew that this was the perfect opportunity to use this cute little fella with an umbrella.  I coloured him in with Copics, die cut the clouds and popped up the white panel to give it a bit of dimension.  I went back and added in raindrops with a pale blue Copic marker, and then went over top of them with Liquid Glass to make them shiny.  I added Liquid Glass to his Wellies to make them shiny, too.
Deanna & I were thinking of Get Well cards this week, but there is other wonderful inspiration by the rest of the design team over on the Dynamic Duos blog, or you can find them linked on my sidebar.  We would love to have you join us - if you don't have the exact colours, just use something similar.

Cardstock is Ocean, Black & White Daisy, CTMH; Ink is Tuxedo Black, Memento; Copic Markers; Cloud die, Taylored Expressions; Stamp set is Sugar Kissed Cottage, L'il Inker Designs;  Liquid Glass, CTMH.

Mojo Monday #280

My posts are fewer and far between these days... so I'm glad to sneak in some crafty time this evening to get my Mojo Monday card done.  I started working part time at our local library back in November, and we are short a couple of people right now, so I am picking up some extra hours.  When that happens, something else has to give!  On a positive note - see those little zig zags on my card?  Yes, it's stitching!  If you know my cards at all, I stitch on nearly all of them... and I have been without a sewing machine for almost 3 months.  It's nearly killed me (smile).  Round about the same time, my husband's car was in an accident and out of commish for 3wks, and our computer was on the fritz for about 3wks, but we were all healthy & happy, so losing my sewing machine was kind of small potatoes, you know?  Here's what I came up with:
Papers & stamp set are all La Belle Vie Workshop on the Go; Sentiment is from Happy Birthday; Rosette ribbon - all CTMH; Copic markers.

Valentine Cake Pops

I just wanted to share a few photos of the Red Velvet cake pops that my daughter made last night... in Canada, red velvet is virtually non-existent, so it was unusual to find this cake mix at a store here.  I almost called this post "bloody valentine" but it just sounded too creepy.  Here are a few pics of the process and the end result:
If you need a good Halloween gore scene - just get a red velvet cake mix!  Too funny.  Paige took about 35 of them to her high school today (she was very popular).

Dynamic Duos #39

It's time for some softer colours at Dynamic Duos, where we're featuring Pink Pirouette & Pool Party this week.  I needed a baby card for one of my son's favourite teachers, so this colour combo was perfectly timed!
We would love to have you join us over at the Dynamic Duos blog, where you can see all kinds of fabulous inspiration from the rest of the design team, or you'll find them linked on my sidebar.  If you don't have the exact colours, just use something similar. (You'll notice that my cardstock is a little more blue, as I just didn't have anything as minty as Pool Party).

Patterned paper is Chantilly; Cardstock is Baby Pink, Heavenly Blue & Colonial White; Stamp set is Gracious Greetings; Ink is Grey Wool; Bitty Pearls, Rosette ribbon & Grosgrain ribbon - all supplies are CTMH; Taylored Expressions Medium scallop die.

- must use at least 5 embellishments
- minimum 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
(I hope I got them all correct, it's been a while!)

Seize The Birthday #4

After a mad scramble through my stash of cards this evening... I had to run out and (gasp!) BUY a card for my son to give to a friend.  I had absolutely zero cards suitable for the male population.  And I must say that I find a lot of my cards have somewhat useless sayings, that really don't apply to many situations...  90% of the cards I need are simply for birthdays, so I'm trying to keep that in mind every time I start to make a card these days.  Okay.  Now down to the business at hand - knowing that it is a masculine week, I made a point of working on this week's Seize The Birthday sketch.  I now have a stash of { 1 } male birthday card :o)
Edited to add: I just realized now that I hadn't mentioned that I used this week's Inspired By photo as colour inspiration to use for a guy card!  So I'm a little late, but I'm linking it up now!
Patterned papers are Harvest Lane by Simple Stories; Cardstock, papers and ribbon, Key Ingredients kit; Stamp sets are Live Inspired & Happy Birthday, CTMH; Inks are Cocoa, Twilight & Autumn Terracotta; Button & Hemp, CTMH; Spellbinders die.

Dynamic Duos #38

It's a monochromatic week at Dynamic Duos, so we are featuring the seasonal colours of Pink Pirouette & Real Red.  I really struggled with this colour combo.  I mean I REALLY struggled with this combo!??  I had two or three false starts, then completed a card, scrapped it, tried again, scrapped it, and then went in a completely different direction and voila:
This afternoon, I had some happy mail arrive.  Last week I won some blog candy from the lovely & talented Teresa Kline who sent me the Verve valentine set called Wings of Love with the matching heart dies!  Yay me!  This little package in the mail rescued me amidst my crafty struggles today - so I started stamping, and pulled out my Copics (don't look too closely, my colouring is rusty, and I was in a hurry to get it done!).
We would love to have you join us at Dynamic Duos - check out the blog to see what the Dynamos have in store for you this week!

Cardstock is Cranberry, CTMH & Xpress it; Ink is Tuxedo Black, Memento; Copic Markers; Twine is American Crafts.
