July Sketch For You To Try

Just getting this one in under the wire!  I've managed to do all 7 of the SFYTT sketches for 2012 so far... and I started to panic a bit when we lost power and internet this afternoon during a wild thunderstorm.  So the second the internet came back, here I am getting my card posted!  I'm still trying to beef up my guy-card supply, so I pulled out my Marjolaine papers again:
Patterned papers are Marjolaine, Basic Grey; Cardstock is Colonial White, CTMH; Stamp set is You Are... CTMH; Inks are Kiwi & Twilight, CTMH and Rich Cocoa, Memento; Buttons, CTMH; Classy Oval Die, Verve.

Humble Artist's Swap

I haven't gotten around to posting a photo of my June Humble Artist's Swap card yet, so here it is!  Here was our list of requirements:
No patterned paper
No neutral coloured cardstock
Must have minimum 8 layers
Must use 6 different stamp images
Do not use any embellishments (brads, ribbon etc.)
Make an embellishment from paper that counts for at least 2 layers
Do not use any stamp sets with Border or Background in the name
Whew!  It always takes a little time to get your head around the project, but once you do, it starts to roll.  I left the pink strip blank so that each person could personalize the card however they like. To see what the other swappers made, you'll see a list of their blogs down the side of mine - just scroll down.

I made five of them!

Stamp set is Card Word Puzzle; Cardstock is Garden Green, Olive, New England Ivy, Blush, Hollyhock & Baby Pink; Ink is Grey Wool; - all CTMH. Copic Markers.

Paper Bouquet

Here are a few pictures of the finished paper bouquet that I made for my niece.  She is a fabulously crafty person, so I knew she'd appreciate the work that went into it.  The flowers are made from a template that you can find here, which I printed onto patterned paper and pages ripped out of an old dictionary.  Each petal is glued onto a 12" piece of florist wire, and then the stem is wrapped with floral tape.  The cutting takes a bit of time, but the assembly is fairly painless:

Rainbow Cupcakes

Yes, another Pinterest idea... this time it was my daughter, the Cupcake Diva, trying out the rainbow cupcake idea.  She just used a regular white cake mix, separated the batter into 6 bowls and added food colouring.  You then layer a little of each colour into the cupcake liner, and this is what you end up with:

Shower Gift

Just wanted to share a little something different... For those of you who frequent Pinterest, you'll likely have run across this idea at some point.  My niece is getting married this weekend, and this is just a little something my daughter & I made to give her at her shower.  We found the little wooden letters, and painted them with several coats of white primer, glued them to the canvas, and voila!
The middle words, "lived happily" have double wooden letters so that they stand out a little higher.

Sneak Peek

It's been a slow blogging week since I'm prepping all kinds of goodies for my niece's wedding next week... I'll be posting a couple of things over the next few days.  One thing that I'm prepping to make is a bouquet of paper roses from a pattern that I found via Pinterest (www.ellinee.com).  I'm making a bunch of them from polka-dotted scrapbooking paper, and bought an old Encyclopedia to cut up and make about 8 more to add to the bouquet.  Here is a quick peek at my 'test' to see if the paper would feed through my printer, and to see what they would look like.  I was THRILLED with the results - and it only takes a few minutes to assemble (cutting them all out was another matter!).  The flower is on a 12" piece of florist wire that I will tape up with florist tape.  I'll take a bunch of photos when the whole bouquet is assembled, but here is my test flower:

CAS Butterflies

When I saw both The Paper Players colour challenge and Chupa's Sketchbook Saturday sketch today, my card idea came together pretty quickly.  I have my Dotty patterned papers and my new (to me!) Taylored Expressions butterfly dies, so I didn't stray too far from Chupa's sample:

Patterned papers are Dotty for You; Cardstock is Colonial White; Stamp sets are Universal Backgrounds & Card Word Puzzle; Ink is Desert Sand; Mocha Opaque Pearls - all CTMH; Charming Oval dies by Verve; Butterfly dies, Taylored Expressions.

Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #162

This may be the most fun I've ever had making a card... My backordered Taylored Expressions dies arrived in the mail today, so I immediately added the flowers onto the bottom of my Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge card.  I used an older TE die for the little gift bag, and pulled out my June Key Ingredients kit again:
Patterned papers are Hello Summer, Echo Park; Ribbon, buttons & cardstock - all Key Ingredients; Gift bag and Pop-Up Petals2 dies - Taylored Expressions; Mini Monarch die, MFT; Stamp set is Say it in Style, CTMH; Ink is Pear, CTMH;
